Bergs - Manuels
Chocolate Milkshake
• • 2 Yums out of 5
Bergs has a lot of flavours of ice cream, and that's something they take pride in, but I felt the only milkshake I could review would be a plain chocolate milkshake. They advised against it and suggested I try a "Death by Chocolate" Milkshake instead. The plain chocolate was not so great. It just tasted like I was drinking grocery-store-brand chocolate ice cream. Would not drink again.

So I went to Bergs the next day and got a Death by Chocolate Milkshake and it was great. It had a lot more flavour and I was totally into it. Very thick and chocolately. I suggest going swimming in Manuels River and hitting up Bergs for one of these afterwards.

Laura's Chocolate Milkshake

For a place with good ice cream and good chocolate, they make a pretty weak chocolate milkshake. It was really thin, didn't taste too great and half the cup was undrinkable ice chunks stuck to the bottom of the cup. The cup itself was also pretty small, especially considering the price. Not the best place to get a milkshake - buy an ice cream or some chocolates instead.

Chocolate Frosty Shake

I'm obviously a guy who loves milkshakes, so I hope you understand that it's hard for me to give a milkshake such a low rating, but Wendy's deserves it. We all know that Frostys are awesome, so you'd think a Frosty Shake should be amazing, right? Well I don't know how they screwed it up, but they did. I've tried this a few different times, each time hoping that maybe my previous bad experience was just due to the person making it, but nope, they've all been pretty bad. I actually threw one out once. I give this a 1 Yum out of 5 to remind myself not to try one of these again. Just stick with a regular Frosty.

Chocolate Milkshake

Another fast-food franchise gets 4 out of 5 from me. A&W chocolate milkshakes are amazing. I considered A&W to be my favourite place for a milkshake for a long time. The summer after I finished high school I got one of these every week. I know I'm giving this the same rating as a McDonald's shake, but I feel like it's important for me to stress how different they are. The A&W shake is smoother and not as thick as McDonald's, but it has a unique flavor. It's not like drinking ice cream, milk and chocolate sauce mixed together, it's like drinking a milkshake (Although my friend who used to work at A&W explained the not-so-tasty-sounding reason for that). Anyways, try one and maybe you'll understand what I mean. Definitely interesting, definitely tasty.

Triple Thick Chocolate Shake

McDonalds? 4 out of 5? Seriously? Seriously. I know McDonald's has a pretty bad rep, but man, a lot of their food is actually pretty awesome. Ok, maybe you don't agree with me on that, but at least try a milkshake. I really did not expect much from them, but the Triple Thick Shakes are actually really, really good. The name "Triple Thick" is definitely accurate, I think they make the thickest milkshake I have ever had. It's also super chocolately, without being too chocolately. The Scope recently named McDonald's the best place to get a milkshake in the city, and while I kind of think choosing McDonald's was lame, I can understand why they picked it. Try not to drink too many of these though, believe it or not they are one of the fattiest (if not THE fattiest) thing on the McDonald's menu.

Chocolate Milkshake

Earlier this year Dairy Queen changed the way they make their milkshakes or something. I'm not exactly sure what they did, but it worked. I found the old DQ shakes a bit too thick, and half the milkshake was chunks of undrinkable ice cream stuck to the bottom of the cup. That is no longer the case; the new DQ milkshakes are smooth and consistent. They're actually pretty great. I've heard people say that they now might not be thick enough, which might be true, but I think they're definitely a step up from the old ones. I definitely recommend trying one.

Hershey's Chocolate Milkshake

I've found that greasy-spoon type restaurants, or restaurants that have been around since the 50s, or restaurants with a greasy-spoon or 50s theme, usually have killer chocolate milkshakes. So when I noticed that Fog City Diner had a greasy 50s theme going on, I had high hopes for their milkshakes. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. That isn't to say that the shake wasn't good, it was pretty damn good, but I had been expecting a Johnny Rocket's quality milkshake, my hopes were too high. I found the consistency to be very similar to a Dairy Queen milkshake, and there was definitely too much chocolate syrup used in the shake I had. This could have just been a mistake by the guy who made the shake, it had the potential to be really good, I might try one again in a few weeks and do another review. Also it was like 6 bucks. As of now I'm giving it 3 Yums.
